Sotogrande is renowned for, amongst other reasons, its excellent golf courses.
VALDERRAMA GOLF CLUB
Where the 1997 Ryder Cup and this year's American Express Championship were held. Presently, it is considered Number One in Europe. It has an 18-hole course plus a 9-hole course. Furthermore, here we also find one of the best golf museums in the world.
REAL CLUB DE GOLF DE SOTOGRANDE
American-style wide fairways and greens.
Designed by the golf specialist, Robert Trent Jones, there are 18 holes. There is also a 9-hole short-length course. The Club House was completely refurbished this year. It is near the sea and the beach club. It has its own swimming pool, a tennis and paddle tennis courts.
HOTEL- GOLF CLUB ALMENARA
Is situated between two lakes, with 18 holes and 9 more under construction. There is also a practice golf school. Designed by Dave Thomas and inaugurated in April 1998. Adjacent to the golf course, there is a 4-star hotel "Almenara", with 150 rooms.
LA CAÑADA
Another Robert Trent Jones design, 9 holes + new 9 currently under construction designed by Dave Thomas. This is a Municipal golf course.
Sotogrande has two beach clubs: El Cucurucho and El Octogono. These have restaurants, bars and direct access to the beach area. There are supervised activities for kids and a total of 7 swimming pools. The installations include tennis, paddle and fronton courts and saunas.
Inside and around Sotogrande, you can find a wide range of restaurants. You can choose between restaurants that specialise in meat or fish dishes, Chinese or Italian restaurants, or hamburger or appetizer places. Besides, during warm summer nights, all of these restaurants have terraces so that you can have dinner al fresco. There are also banks, doctors, chemist, hairdressers, video club, car hire, travel agencies, supermarkets, newsagents, fashion shops, and an interesting Sunday antique market.
The complex has an international school that is based on Spanish and English curricular design offering the educational levels of ESO and GCSE. The kids will be able to learn languages and computer studies from the age of 3. They will be inaugurating new installations at the end of next year.
All in all, Sotogrande is the perfect place to own a summerhouse or to relocate. Clean, modern and safe, it is an ideal location for the entire family. The parents can enjoy world-class golf, polo and yachting events. The children have the sea and many other attractions.
